Simon Starling

Structural artist

Andrea-Guermani

Simon Starling was born in Surrey in 1967, now he lives and works in Copenhagen.
Starling creates works that transform existing objects into something new. Through a process that could be defined as the reverse of the one that led Marcel Duchamp to take an ordinary bottle-drainer and turn it into a work of art, Starling uses elements that already have an acquired value, such as design objects, to completely rework them by converting them into something different.
The field of investigation is always the object and the processes behind its production, while its transformation is linked to the place where it is made or the exhibition venue where the artist is called upon to work, almost as if to follow a sort of geopolitics of the object that leads it towards continuous new migrations.
